Road safety week commenced with Walkathon, Bike Rally

Poonch, Jan 11: The 31st National road safety week was commenced today by conducting a Walkathon and Bike rally here. The rally was commenced from Sheesh Mahal Poonch and culuminated at sports stadium Poonch. The rally was flagged off by DDC Poonch Rahul Yadav.
The rally was attended by SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral, ARTO Poonch Jughal Kishore .Students from different educational institutions , Traffic Police, District Police and volunteers of Civil defence besides Principal GHSS sheesh Mahal, teachers and staff of different schools participated in the rally.
DDC Poonch in his address exhorted upon the Young generation to motivate and educate their near and dear ones to follow precations and use road safety gears while driving a two wheeler or a car . He also told the students to learn and educate others about the road safety sig. He further asked the students to remain vigillant in ensureing no use of mobile phone, avoid overspeeding while traveling in public or private vehicles.
SSP Poonch while addressing the gathering on the ocassion appreciated the ARTO and Traffic Police for organizing such a program. He further sensitized the young generation for road safety measures. He informed the gathering that a lot of precious lives are lost every year due to the negligence of road safety measures while driving. He impressed upon the need to spread mass awareness among people in order to minimize the risk of loosing life on roads.
He appriciated the various activities to be organised during the week long Program which includes Drivers' training , health checkup, mass awareness and such alike.
Various other speakers also spoke on the occasion to educate and motivate the gathering towards road safety before the rally including inspectors from Regional Transport Authority and Traffic department.
During the rally students carried various placards giving out the messages of "Seat Belt Onn, Mobile Phone Off","Use Helmets","Alert today Alive Tomorrow"," No Drinking while Driving" and such alike A road safety pledge was also taken on the ocassion. The students were also given refreshments after the rally.
