Citizens demand shifting of proposed metro route
1/12/2020 10:45:25 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 12: Citizens of various localities of Jammu city including Marble Market have demanded the shifting of proposed route of metro rail link in Jammu city, which is as per proposal to be pass through several inhabited localities and would displace thousands of locals.
The citizens of Marble Market, Trikuta Nagar Extension have appealed the government to consider the grievances of the general public as according to the proposed route, several of the shops as well as houses would be demolished or to be resettled due to construction of the metro rail link.
The citizens have submitted proposal to the government according to which they have appealed the government to realign the proposed route along with Canal and then go straight up to bypass road that is Kunjwani, Narwal road without turning towards the Marble market road and opened up right besides Audi Jammu showroom and in front of Anuthan hotels. "Opting for this proposal would also result in no public outcry, no traffic jams, no harassment to the public on account of mental, physical or financial losses and disturb the already established business institutions", the press release forward by the citizen read.
It further stated that the realignment of the metro link along the canal/taking the route underground would be cheaper for the exchequer, because the building of the elevated route after dismantling the structures in way after compensating them would relatively be costlier than taking it underground.
"Apart from giving compensation, the disturbance of the business establishment will be another loss to government as the already established business establishments, running for the last over two decades have been paying huge govt fess in the form of GST, various cess fee, service taxes, electricity bills, municipality fee, income tax beside others, which will be stopped once the structures will be dismantled", it reads.
They appealed the government that if their proposal would be considered it would be cheaper as well as less land compensation would be required to be paid along with minimum public outcry.
It may be mentioned here that as per the latest land acquisition guidelines and act, no land can be forcibly acquired by the government without actual consent of 80 percent of the land owners involved in that proposed metro route.
They appealed the government to consider their demand of cancellation of the proposed metro route passing through marble market Jammu and also appealed the government to grant some time from busy schedule to listen the grievances of the general public.
