DC Srinagar inspects snow-clearance operations, essential services

Srinagar, Jan 15: Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Department Fareed Ahmed monitored and personally supervised the snow clearance operations across Srinagar district in both Urban and Rural areas in the wake of continuous snowfall during the day. The response mechanism was strengthened for efficient and time-bound clearance of roads in the district.
A total of 70 machines were deployed for clearance of main roads and link roads in the district which included 22 heavy machines inducted by the MED. Road length of 1567 KM was cleared by evening which included multiple rounds in higher reaches.
DC Srinagar inspected the snow clearance operations and interacted with public at Qamarwari, Batmaloo, Bemina, Hyderpora, Kothibagh, Rajbagh, Panthachowk and several areas in downtown along with Chief Engineer MED, SEs PWD, ExEns and field staff.
The DC and CE also visited the central control room at Bemina to oversee the snow clearance operations, facilities for the operational staff and for steps required to be taken for augmentation of resources. The men and machinery for snow clearance have been on high alert for last three days and prompt response mechanism for road clearance was ensured in all the sectors across Srinagar district .
Meanwhile, DC Srinagar also reviewed on ground the availability of essential services including power supply, water supply, health and transport. The power department team swiftly restored the snags and by evening 65 out of 66 33-KV feeders were operational and all 11KV feeders were charged. Meanwhile all water supply schemes were operational after restoration of two locations facing snags.
The status and supply position of stocks was also reviewed in wake of highway closure. A total of 9000 cylinders were distributed in last three days and stocks of 348 Kilo-litres petrol and 200 Kilo-litres of diesel have been received.
