Will Baig, Bukhari join hands to replace Mehbooba as PDP president?
2/3/2020 12:01:27 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 2: Rumours making rounds in the circle of PDP that two senior leaders namely MuzaffarHussainBaig and AltafBukhari are likely to join hands to completely sideline detained president Mehbooba Mufti from all affairs of the party.
Presently both Baig and Bukhari have raised banner of revolt against Mehbooba Mufti. Bukhari is already expelled from the party but he has managed to bring most of the senior leaders of the PDP to his side. Baig-patron of PDP, on the other hand, is availing every opportunity to expose Mehbooba Mufti.
Credible sources in PDP circle said that some party leaders are on the job to bring Baig and Bukhari on single platform to snatch PDP from Mufti family. These leaders have suggested both Baig and Bukhari to shun their differences and save the party from Mufti dynasty.
Sources further revealed that these leaders are optimistic that Baig and Bukhari would join hand every soon to take control of PDP by sideliningMehbooba Mufti.
After detention of Mehbooba Mufti her party is facing severe crisis and many leaders of PDP have already deserted the party to join Bukhari camp to form a new political outfit which doesn’t challenge withdrawal of Article 370. Recently PDP “high command” had eight of its senior leaders for hobnobbing with Bukhari but one of the expelled leaders Mohammad Dilawar Mir has already challenged his explusion. Mir claimed that being a member of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC)-the highest decision making body, no one of the party in the absence of Mehbooba Mufti has authority to expel him.
Sources said that leaders-working to bring Baig and Bukhari together- would evolve consensus on the name of the leader who was going to replace Mehbooba Mufti as PDP president. It is believed that Baig would remain as patron of the party while as another leader will be elected as president in place of Mehbooba.
Baig in a recent press conference at Jammu had blamed Mehbooba’s “provocative statements” for forcing the Centre to abrogate Article 370 and downgrade J&K into two UTs.
One such statement, he said, was Mehbooba telling centre that ”nobody would be there to shoulder the national flag if Article 370 was abrogated’.
