Awareness programme on drug abuse held

Jammu, Feb 2: J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses, a NGO working in the field of Health and Development organized health and an awareness programme on drug abuse and its ill effects .The chief guest of the health and awareness programme was Corporator Sharda Devi. Health checkup was done by Doctor Zahur Rana.
The objective of this camp is to generate awareness among the general masses on ill effects of drug abuse and information regarding Outreach and Drop In centre running under the ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India. JKSPYM in its recent survey found that drug abuse is in rise in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and every activity pertaining to curb the addiction is much required now a days.
More than 200 people from community participated in the program and got benefitted from it. Main activities of the program were to identify the drug users, register them under NGOs outreach and Drop in centre program. Provided counseling to them and refer them to the need based services.
Under this program ODIC has been established in Talab Tillo area where drug users from all strata can register themselves and can get benefitted from the program. Information and counseling was one of the main activities of the camp.
Pamphlets having massage on Ill effects of drug use, etc printed in local language is also distributed among the community and refreshment as well.
Centre In charge Ms. Shikha along with her team Ms. Monika, Ms. Meher, Mr. Pushp of JKSPYM ODIC project mentioned that the NGO JKSPYM is actively involved in drug use treatment among drug users since last 20 years.
