BJP demands handing over of toll plaza land to Tourism department
2/5/2020 9:43:12 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 5: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri today urged Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu to handover the site of Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur to Tourism Department for developing it on the pattern of Surajkund to attract tourists in Jammu. He said that after abolition of toll, the site is virtually abandoned and is serving no genuine purpose.
Raman Suri said that this site has huge potential to be developed especially as it is located on the bank of River Ravi. Tourist Huts, Restaurants, Recreational areas, Handicraft bazar, Local food stalls, Shopping arcades, Way side areas, Modern Sport Centres besides Libraries and other attractions can develop the area into biggest tourist attraction.
The BJP leader said that this can also serve as a transit place for visiting the Lake created after construction of Thein Dam. Areas of Basohli, Bani and Billawar too will get a fillip with development of this site at Lakhanpur. Once developed, this can be accessed by people and tourists from Jammu, Udhampur, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, thereby enabling the UT of J&K to earn revenue besides providing a remarkable space.
Annual Melas on the pattern of Surajkund can also attract artisans, from not only Jammu and Kashmir but also from other states, thereby creating a cultural blend. Raman Suri urged Lt Gov G C Murmu to ask the tourism department to prepare a plan for the timely development of area, so that the available infrastructure can also be put to better use before it gets damaged.
He added that since maximum infrastructure at the site stands abandoned and is of no use, the unnecessary hurdles should be demolished and buildings and offices should be put to better use before they are damaged beyond repair or use.
