SRINAGAR, Feb 5: Despite being a major hospital in the Kashmir division, SKIMS Bemina lacks well equipped canteen with the result attendants of patients and staff suffer badly.
Though there is no such hospital across the Kashmir division that is without canteen facility, but Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Bemina lacks of adequate canteen facility thus leaving many ailing patients and attendants to suffer during these harsh days of winter.
“Fact of the matter is that, patients have an easy access to reach this hospital, be it the patients from anywhere like Budgam, Bandipora, Kupwara or Baramulla. This hospital caters a huge rush of patients on daily basis,” said Bashir Ahmad of Makhama Budgam.
He told Early Times that there is huge inflow of patients from various districts of Kashmir valley but the hospital lacks basic amenity of the canteen, causing patients and their attendants to suffer.
“It is not only the patients or attendants that suffer but staff members including doctors also suffer in terms of less accommodation in the hospital canteen. Though there is a hospital canteen but attendants face accommodation problem as there remains a huge rush of people,” said an attendant from Beerwah-Budgam.
Another attendant, Shaheena of Sopore said that, lack of space at the hospital is causing inconvenience to everyone be it the staff members or attendants, adding from past one week they are at the hospital and not a single time they took lunch or dinner in the hospital canteen.
“Yesterday evening we moved in a park and some attendants were seen outside of the hospital premises for having their dinner and at many times the patients eat in the corridors or sometimes in their respective wards,” an attendant aggrieved.
While as one of the staff members of JVC Bemina said that some months back the construction for the new canteen was taken up but the works was stopped due to best reasons know to the authorities, perhaps there are no funds available, adding even though in the recent past we also expressed our resentments over the non availability of hospital canteen, but there is hardly anybody who cares for that.
Need of the hour is to construct a well equipped canteen for the attendants, patients and staff as well so that they will not suffer in future as they did in past, a group of attendants added.
