Treacherous politicians

Former MLA and leader of the Awami Itehad Party (AIP), Sheikh Abdul Rashid, who was arrested by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) in August last year in connection with the terror funding case is in news again. This time NIA is going to question him for his links with the self-styled Hizbul commander, Naveed Babu, who was arrested along with the disgraced Deputy Superintendent of Police, Devender Singh, last month.
Rashid is presently lodged at Tihar Jail in New Delhi. His involvement in the terror funding case had come to fore, when the main Hawala conduit (Watali) had spilled the beans about him transferring money into Rashid's account.
Rashid despite being a Member of the Legislative Assembly sided with the anti-nationals to keep Kashmir burning. He was even close to winning Parliamentary elections from north Kashmir's Baramulla constituency in 2019.
His credentials have been doubtful from the very first day he joined the politics. He under the garb of being an MLA used to take part in anti-national activities and demonstrations. He used spew venom against the country and left no opportunity to advocate the cause of separatists.
Sheikh Rashid during his stint as MLA staged many dramas in the Legislative Assembly. His only aim in the House used to be to disrupt the proceedings. He used to raise the contentious issues and seemed least interested in talking about the woes of people.
During the past few months his links with Pakistan and the terrorists have been exposed. Such people, who swear by Indian Constitution and enjoy all the privileges and perks as MLA, and then backstab the nation, need to be given exemplary punishment so that it serves as a deterrent.
It's unfortunate that few mainstream Kashmir centric leaders since 1947 have done lot of disservice to the country and the people of Kashmir by telling them that Kashmir is a problem. The mainstream leaders toeing Pakistan's line and building their politics around separatism did lot of damage. People sitting in New Delhi were misled by Kashmir centric leaders by claiming that if any attempt is made to put the things right in the Valley, Kashmir would fall into the lap of Pakistan. As on date all the myths stand shattered. Kashmir centric leaders have been shown their worth. They have been told in clear terms that if they want to stay in politics they will have to be loyal towards the country. No more Sheikh Rashid's will be allowed to appear on the scene.
