Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 6: Over 300 souls of warwan migrant quarters are forced to drink contaminated water due to failure of Government to construct much talked out warwan water supply scheme. According to sources, conceived in year 2013 RS 35 crore Verwan water supply scheme has failed to meet the deadline as the scheme has failed to see the light of the day till date.
Sources said due to the official apathy no headway has been reached to complete the scheme in last seven years. Sources said due to failure of PHE authorities to complete the scheme in time 300 migrant employees are forced to drink the contaminated water of river Jehlum which flows adjacent to the camp.
Sources said that four tankers are presently being purchased every day at the rate of RS 1200 per tanker and this way water for camp is purchased for Rs 4800 daily. This amount accumulated to RS 17,28,000 for which water is purchased per year. This amount has cumulated to 1,20, 96000 rupees since 2013, sources added.
Sources said had the department concentrated on construction of RS 35 lakh water supply scheme it could have saved over rupees one crore. Holding the authorities responsible for the same, sources termed it a big scandal saying the water supply scheme was deliberately delayed to put the State exchequer to heavy loss.
Sources said moreover the cost of water supply scheme which is still incomplete also escalated thee to four times. This way the officers responsible for construction of scheme have put the State exchequer to double loss.
Sources said there is a brewing resentment over the delaying tactics adopted by the authorities in construction of water supply scheme forcing hapless employees to be dependent on contaminated water of Jehlum.
