Amid rise in terror strikes in Jammu, police to get hit-tech vehicles for Kashmir
2/7/2020 10:09:28 AM

Early times report
jammu, Feb 6: Even as there has been a rise in terror related incidents in Jammu province and very recently three Pakistani terrorists were killed on the Nagrota highway here, the Jammu and Kashmir Police look more concerned about Kashmir as the JKP is procuring atleast two hi-tech vehicles to combat terror in the valley.
As per sources the police have floated tenders for the procurement of the all-weather and remote operated vehicles for the anti-militancy operations in the valley.
The vehicle, each of which will cost at least Rs one crore, will be used for conducting room-to- room intervention and surveillance during the anti-militancy operations.
The Remotely Operated Vehicle or ROV also works like a robot that can climb staircases and move around in any building.
As per a police official privy to the scheduled procurement, the ROV shall have hi-tech sensors including telescopes, laser beams and microphones to send "minutest details about the spot to the control room that shall be watching the movement of the vehicle."
The ROV will be able to use machine guns as well. "This means that the vehicle in itself will be enough to fight terrorists," said a police official on the condition of anonymity.
The officials said there was every likelihood that one such vehicle would be kept stationed in south Kashmir and the other one in the summer capital of Srinagar.
If the sources are to be believed the JKP is yet to decide about the use of such hit-tech vehicles in the winter capital region.
It is pertinent to mention that over the last few years, Jammu has not only been bearing the brunt of Pakistani aggression in the form of shelling on the frontiers but that some of the deadliest attacks have taken place in this particular region.
Apart from a Fidayeen attack on the Sunjwan Army camp in Jammu, the terrorists have targeted several other locations including this city in particular several times.
But while both Jammu and Kashmir regions have been victims of Pakistan sponsored terror, the government looks more concerned about the valley. Just last year, the police reportedly procured drones for surveillance, but mainly in Kashmir.
Jammu on the other hand continues to be "so neglected" that recently when terrorists struck at the naka on the Jammu Srinagar highway in Nagrota, the cops on duty were even not "adequately armed". One of the policeman was injured while fighting the terrorists.
Experts said the discrimination with Jammu should end. "For equitable concerns, if two such vehicles are being procured, one each should be deployed in Jammu and Kashmir regions," said a former police official from Jammu.
