Coronavirus threat
2/6/2020 11:09:10 PM
The threat of 'novel Coronavirus' reach-ing Jammu and Kashmir has kept the authorities on toes. The travellers returning from China are being screened at the airports. Nearly twelve samples have been sent for testing to Pune. Reports of six persons from Jammu region have been negative, while the reports of Kashmiri students are awaited.
The experts are of the opinion that J&K has always remained vulnerable to the viral infections in the past. The viruses like SARS and MARS, which had spread in the gulf countries too had reached J&K. These viruses died their own death after sometime and the experts believe that 'novel Coronavirus' too would disappear soon. But extraordinary precautions have to be taken till this deadly virus dies.
The 'novel Coronavirus' first broke out in Wuhan city of Hubel province in China. Nearly 500 people have lost their lives so far in China. The virus has found its ways into 27 countries globally. The first death outside China has been reported in Philippines.
Officials of the Health Department are claiming that there is no need to panic as everything is under control in J&K. The administration is claiming that it has taken many precautionary measures to take care of any eventuality.
Everyone including the people at the helm are aware about the fact that J&K is susceptible to viral infections due to many reasons. Students, who have returned from Wuhan China- epicentre of the virus-have been asked to rest at home for 14-days and avoid visiting crowded places. But lot more needs to be done.
Precaution is okay but the administration needs to create awareness about the steps that people need to take to keep themselves safe. Doctors have said that this virus could prove deadly anywhere. The only way through which people can save themselves is by taking precautions as there is no cure to 'novel Coronavirus' as on date.
Everyone in J&K is hoping that this virus stays away from this hilly region, but still people are apprehensive about the possibility of the Coronavirus reaching the J&K UT.
The Health Department cannot just sit and relax by carrying out the screening of the travellers coming from China. It will have to play a proactive rule to ensure that no case goes undetected. Any negligence can lead to the outbreak of epidemic and this has to be prevented at any cost.
