Tourism potential water bodies in Jammu region soon to get FRP rescue boats

Jammu, Feb 14: In view of the rising number of tourists to the important destinations located along the banks of rivers, dams and lakes, Department of Homeguards, Civil Defence and UTDRF of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered procurement of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) rescue boats at three places of the Jammu region.
As per official sources, the department has asked the Manesar, Gurgaon Harayana based company to place FRP Rescue boats with 75 HP OBM in three important water bodies of Jammu region.
“The HG/CD/UTDRF has asked the M/S GEEPEE Reinforced Products Private Ltd, based at Manesar in Gurgaon to drop the FRP Rescue boats with 75 HP OBM to be supplied under World Bank Scheme as per the supply order issued by the PMU, JT FRP at three locations with consultation of in-charge Central Store of the department,” official sources here told .They said that the boats will be placed at UTDRF component Kathua for Ranjit Sagar Dam at Parthy Basholi in Kathua district, Mansar Lake in Samba district and Chenab River in Reasi district.
“The boats are to be placed as safety measure in view of increasing footfall of tourists in the Jammu region especially in the coming summer season and the tourists comprising from within the region and from across the country,” said an official.
He also added that recently boating has been allowed in Surinsar and Ujj barrage and Jammu region is witnessing an increase in water adventure activities.
“Boating in Ranjit Sagar Lake is going to be an attraction in a big way after outsourcing of boating including para sailing boats, cruise boats, jet skies as per the recommendations in National Institute of Water Sports,” said an official adding that there are 18 paddle boats operating in Mansar Lake and the rescue component will also ensure adhering of safety norms by tourists and boat operators.
He said that in the coming days, more facilities are to be loaded at major tourist destinations of Jammu region so that it gets an identity on World Tourism Map.
