Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 14: There is a tussle in BJP over constitution of UT executive body and election of office bearers to UT unit after re-election of Ravinder Raina as party chief last month.
Sources said the UT office bearers who were in the previous body are making hard efforts to retain the party posts. But the High Command wants to change them with induction of new faces in the team with a skill in tackling organizational matters and having good rapport with the masses.
Sources said the outgoing office bearers are approaching senior party leaders in Delhi and other states however the High Command wants a visible change in the office bearers.
Sources said party general secretary who holds key in the party is in constant touch with High Command so for as nomination of office bearers are concerned. Both President and organization general secretary are in favour of retaining some old office bearers while changing some with new faces, sources said. Sources said to ascertain the views of party on new office bearers the High Command had deputed senior National vice president, Avinash Rai Khanna to Jammu yesterday to ascertain the views of senior leaders on election of new office bearers. The party senior leadership discussed the issue in detail as well as name of probable candidates. It has finalized a list to submit the same to High Command for the final approval.
Sources said High Command after ascertaining facts will give its final consent on the list. Sources said that one of the senior leaders who had tried his luck as party chief prior Ravinder Raina's emergence as consensus candidate for the presidential post is tipped to be nominated as prabhari for Punjab and Himachal.
Sources said the name of another senior leader from Udhampur is also making rounds in party circles to be given an important assignment in the State unit to keep the flock together. However, some leaders within State and at national level are apprehensive about his role after his opposition to certain party decisions taken last year. However his organisational skills are likely to bail him out in getting an important assignment within party this time, sources added.
Sources said party has decided to change the assignments of some previous office bearers in view of their contributions to party in outgoing body. Besides giving preference to some new faces has not been ruled out, sources added.
