CUJ celebrates National Science Day

Jammu, Feb 28: Central University of Jammu celebrated National Science Day today in Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, Central University of Jammu.
This year's theme was 'Women in Science' The objective of this day was to popularize science amongst the students and provide awareness regarding various achievements and developments happening at national and global level for the service of the humanity to improve living standards and quality of human life.
Dr Dinesh V. Ganvir, Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India was the Guest of honour for the event. Honorable Vice Chancellor, esteemed Head of the departments, faculty members and students were present on the occasion. Professor Mushtaq Ahmed, Director, Centre for Molecular Biology, Co-convenor, NSD 2020 presented the welcome address and familiarized the gathering about the role of women scientist globally as well as in India. Dr. Shelly Sehgal, Organizing Secretary, Assistant Professor, Centre for Molecular Biology brief introduced the invited speaker of the event.
Invited lecture was delivered by Dr Shubra Sharma, Director, J&K Forensic Department, wherein she apprised and inspired the young faculty members and students of several past breakthrough achievements in science particularly by women researcher and their contribution in solving real time problems faced by rural population. Prof. Deepak Pathania, Dean, School of Life Sciences address the gathering. Guest of Honor, Dr Dinesh V. Ganvir, Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India highlighted the contribution of women in science other areas. Presidential Address was given by Prof. Devanand, Dean, School of Basic and Applied Science, Convenor, NSD 2020.
Prof. Ashok Aima, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu presided over the inaugural session and emphasized on the role of teachers in nurturing students in developing scientific temperament. He focused on the competitive era world-wide irrespective of gender bias. Special thanks to Mrs. Shruti Khanna, Assistant Director JK DST, Innovation Council (UT) J&K who graced the occasion with her presence and financially supported the whole event. Various student activities such as debate, quiz, model and poster making competitions were conducted on this event. Finally, Prof. Brij Mohan Singh Bhau, Dean Research and Head, Department of Botany presented the formal vote of thanks.
