Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 28: Eradication of drug menace from the society as well as women safety are one of our priorities and for realizing these objectives, Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed, said Inspector General Police (IGP) Jammu Mukesh Singh in an exclusive interview with Early Times.
Several questions on various issues were asked to the IGP Jammu during interview, which held at his Office in Jammu today.
Special Traffic Drive
One being asked about the ongoing special traffic drive, IGP Mukesh Singh said that over 1500 vehicles are being challaned and hundreds of vehicles are being sized under various traffic rules violations on daily basis. “The main motive of launching special traffic drive is to bring about awareness among general public about importance of following traffic rules to minimise the incidents of accidents. Our special focus is on the youth, who are mostly seen violating traffic rules with their rash driving which ultimately lead to fatal accidents,” he said further adding that such drives will be continued in future also so as to sensitize the general public by laying down nakas at various points.
Women Safety
“Although crimes against women are increasing across the country but here in Jammu the women security is our priority.
For women security, we are always ready to help them out. We have adopted many security methods for the safety of women. Girls can freely move around during night hours. Incase of any emergency during night, girls can call police and it will be the duty of police to drop them at their respective residences. Jammu is safe for women and I want to assure the girls to feel free. Moreover Jammu is far better than other States from women security point,” IGP Jammu said.
Drug Menace
“From last one year, we have nabbed several drug peddlers as well as the drug smugglers and succeeded to break into the nexus. Youths are most affected from drug menace. Students have been reported to fall in this trap very quickly. We want to appeal to the general public particularly to the students and the parents to come forward to provide information about the drug activity in their areas and their identity will be kept secret,” Singh said.
He further said that they have organised several awareness camps and flashed contact numbers for giving information about drug menace in their areas. He said that the participation of parents can play a vital role to eradicate this menace. “We have opened several drug de-addiction centres and more centers will be opened in near future,” he added.
Misuse of Social Media platform
“We are very particular against misuse of social media platform. There is should be a control over it. The rumour mongers have been continuously trying to vitiate the communal harmony by posting objectionable, anti national posts on various social media sites,” the IGP Jammu said.
He further said that he would appeal to the people, especially to the students to make best use of internet for their education. “Police have lodged many FIRs for spreading hatred. We will not let the anti national elements to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu,” he said.
He further maintained that in order to create friendly relationship with police and public, over 1400 meeting were organised last year and we are bringing students to the police stations to show them their functioning so that the bad impression about police, which is instilled in their mind be removed. “We are also disseminating the heroic stories of police martyrs among the children to bring sense of patriotism in them,” he added.
