DC Ramban chairs District Level Environment Committee meeting

RAMBAN, Feb 28: District Level Environment Committee (DLEC) which met under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ramban, Nazim Zai Khan to discuss the various issues pertaining to the conservation and management of natural environment in the district besides involving different activities to be taken up by different departments under District Environment Plan.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban Haseeb-Ur-Rehman, Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Nawab Din, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) , Ashok Sharma, ASP Sanjay Parihar, DFOs, CMO, PO, ICDS, GM DIC, SDMs, DFOs, District Officer, JKPCB, DPO, BDOs, EO of MCs and others concerned officer attended the meeting. During the meeting DC said that the plan aimed at improving overall parameters of environment in the district includes widespread plantation initiatives, measures to curb use of plastic/ polythene, improving the disposal of solid waste and hospital waste, community participation and mass awareness, strengthening of NGOs working for saving environment, soil and moisture conservation, water conservation, measures aimed at curbing air and water pollution.
DC directed the EOs of MCs Batote, Banihal and Ramban to formulate DPR for the construction of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) besides preparing drainage system plan for their respective municipalities.
RDD was directed to declare mandatory for people to seek permission from concerned BDO before starting construction works in rural areas to keep check on environment pollution.
During the threadbare discussions, all the members of DLEC were directed to go through the National Green Tribunal Guidelines and ensure that the directions are implemented in letter and spirit on the ground.
DC directed Executive Officer Municipal Committees to take concrete steps in segregation of waste and hand over the segregated waste to the Pollution Control Board which shall ensure its safe disposal.
District Officer JKPCB apprised the DC about status of Air, Noise pollution and E-waste, Bio waste, solid waste and liquid waste management in the district. DC directed him to ensure proper implementation of directions of Pollution Control Board.
