Failing to strike deal, SHO challans dumper after 5 days

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 3: A notorious Station House Officer (SHO) from Jammu range, who is known for his ‘Hafta Vasooli’, challaned a dumper, which was carrying crusher stones, after failing to extract desired money.
Sources told Early Times that a SHO had seized a dumper loaded with crushed stones a week ago, but he didn’t take any legal action on the sport and kept it in his custody illegally for over five days and kept trying to strike deal of desired amount in lieu of releasing it.
Shockingly, after thorough investigation, when alleged SHO came to know that dumper belongs to another SHO, he immediately challaned it after realizing that it had proved a futile exercise. The action of SHO of keeping dumper in his custody without initiating action immediately has raised question mark on his bad intention, in which was totally failed.
“As per rules, if any vehicle is seized by the police, it should be challaned within 24 hours but he didn’t comply with it,” sources informed.
They further said that there is plethora of complaints of bribery against the SHO, which has reached to higher ups. Major part of his ‘Hafta Vasooli’ comes from tippers, tractors and dumper, which carries building materials in them and passes through his jurisdiction, which is collected by his PSO.
When ET correspondent contacted the other SHO (owner of dumper), he said that if there was any violation, the officer should have challaned it immediately but he kept vehicle in his custody illegally only to get bribery. He further informed that even the challan issued by SHO was totally wrong, wherein it was mentioned the dumper was carrying sand but fact of the matter was that it was loaded with crusher stones.
The people demanded action against the erring SHO as well as his PSO, who openly threatens the owners of various business establishments, commercial vehicles and demands ‘hafta’.
