Awareness programme organized in Poonch

JAMMU, Mar 5: Agro-meteorological Field Unit, RARS - Rajouri, of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu organized programme on Weather, Climate & Farmers at Loran Block of District Poonch under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa Scheme (GKMS).
The programme was attended by more than 55 farmers including sarpanches of Loran and adjoining areas. The main objective of this programme is to help our farmers to manage weather related uncertainties in day to day agricultural activities.
The proceeding of programme was started by Dr. Rohit Sharma, Technical officer, AMFU - Rajouri, who welcomed the gathering and discussed in detail about the importance of organizing this programme. He explained the farmers in detail about the importance of timely agriculture operations based on weather forecast in day to day activities. He also informed the farming community about the use of Meghdoot mobile application launched by MoES, New Delhi that will provide the location, crop and livestock specific weather based agro advisories to farmers in local languages.
Dr. Deepak Kumar, In charge, RARS - Rajouri emphasized on role of weather factors on disease development and their management in rabi season crops. He aware the farmers of the area about various diseases of fruits and vegetable crops and motivated the farmer community to take more and more utilization of GKMS scheme rendered by IMD, New Delhi. Dr. Ajay Gupta I/c. Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Poonch underlined the need for adopting improved/modern technologies like agro advisory services and mechanized/customized farming systems, etc. to improve the livelihood of farmers. He further stressed farmers to use and attain quality seeds of various crops from reliable sources for attaining maximum production.
Dr. Sunil Mishra (Scientist, Agronomy) explained agronomic techniques for rainfed crops. Sh. Anshu Banotra, A.E.A - Loran also interacted with the farmers and motivated them to take maximum benefit from these type of programmes. He also apprised famers about Centrally sponsored schemes implemented by Agriculture Department. The farmers showed great enthusiasm and thenaked RARS Rajouri, KVK Poonch and Department of Agriculture for organizing such type of informative programme. Sh Lokesh Sharma, presented vote of thanks to the participants for actively participating in the programme.
