Kashmir centric leaders may run away with the agenda set by Jammu politicians
3/5/2020 11:45:04 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 5: Former minister Altaf Bukhari, is all set to launch his new party in Kashmir and it appears that the leaders, who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for one other reason are likely to join hands with Bukhari.
“PDP chief, Mehbooba Mufti, who continues to be under detention since August 5 has been left alone as her party stands decimated,” an analyst told Early Times.
He said that since the day Bukhari has reappeared on the political scene of Kashmir he has been reiterating that he will strive for what’s achievable. “On many occasions Bukhari has said that restoration of J&K’s statehood should be a priority and political parties need to join hands for the common cause,” the analyst added.
He said that political parties in Jammu region have been raising the demand of J&K’s statehood since the reorganization of the erstwhile State in August last year. “Parties in Jammu region coming together has made the J&K unit of the BJP uncomfortable and a few local leaders have already conveyed it to the party high command that this demand cannot be ignored,” the analyst said.
An observer said that it appears that party being launched by Bukhari in Kashmir will raise the issue of statehood vociferously and there is every possibility about Kashmir centric parties hijacking the agenda which the Jammu based parties have been pursuing post August 5, 2019. “Recently a senior BJP leader and a Union Minister had announced that J&K will soon get a domicile law. This issue was also raised by the Jammu based leaders and if they don’t pursue it someone from Kashmir will try to run away with this demand also,” he added.
The observer said, “Jammu based leaders need to wake up from deep slumber as the political activities in Kashmir are getting revived slowly. The new era of politics can spring lot of surprises as the Kashmir centric politicians have realized that if they want to remain relevant then they will have to toe the nationalist line.”
Another analyst said, “The forthcoming assembly elections in J&K will be fought on the issues which have got nothing to do with past. Altaf Bukhari launching a political party is just a beginning. Many others are likely to appear on the political arena of the Valley. PDP and National Conference are all set to become history as their brand of politics is no more relevant in the newly carved out Union Territory of J&K.”
