Don’t leave people to fend for themselves: Munish tells admin

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 4: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Wednesday expressed dismay over authorities not paying any heed towards the problems being faced by the residents of Raipur Satwari area.
Munish who would be contesting the forthcoming assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency said, "It's unfortunate that people of this area have been left to fend for themselves. Their repeated pleas to provide them with basic amenities have fallen flat. Officials cannot turn a blind eye towards their sufferings and act as mute spectators."
Munish said, "To provide basic facilities is the duty of the government of the day. The J&K UT administration needs to take a note of the sufferings of the people and come up with a comprehensive plan to address their issues."
The Editor Early Times said that most areas in the Jammu City are facing similar problems. "These issues need to be addressed without any delay as Jammu is growing fast. Helmsmen need to focus on the growing demands of the people," he added. Meanwhile residents of Raipur Satwari, which falls under Gandhi Nagar Constituency of Jammu district, while talking to Early Times said that they have been grappling with numerous civic issues particularly lack of transport facilities and improper de-silting of irrigation canal which passes through the main market of the area.
"Despite being near to the city, Raipur Satwari has always been neglected by the local leaders as well as by the government departments," residents said.
KAMAL KUMAR: “Irrigation canal, which passes through main Raipur Satwari market is in deplorable condition due to negligence on the part of Irrigation Department for not carrying out proper de-silting. Only superficial de-silting of canal is done by the department due to which silt remains as it is in the canal and when water gushes in it starts overflowing and enters into our shops and houses creating huge problems for us,” he said.
SURINDER SHARMA: In this modern era, when life has become very fast, the residents have been facing huge problem due to lack of transport facilities. “There is no transport facility for this particular area. The matadors, buses which pass through Raipur Satwari reach here after covering 15-20 kms from Mandal-Phallian area, which is comprises of more than 45 villages, always remain full,” he said.
RAJ KUMAR: “Overloading has become menace here due to which many accidents take place. At least 10 accidents were reported last year due to overloading. Recently a 12th class student died due to overloading, when he was hanging behind the matador, which met with an accident resulting in boy's death. We approached the transport department, demanding issuance of permits for passenger vehicles from Raipur Satwari to Bikram Chowk but department denied citing the reason of lack of space for commercial vehicle stand."
SUBHASH SHARMA: “There is no sewerage system in the locality. We have pleaded before the concerned authorities to redress the problem being faced by us till date officials have slept over the issue. We had suggested that a sewerage line should be laid in the middle of the road and it should be connected to defence treatment plant, which is near to the area,” he said.
PAWAN KUMAR: “Sanitation is one of the major issues. Concerned authorities seem least bothered to take a note of it. At times garbage remains unattended for days together."
GARU SHARMA: "A Community Hall constructed for the poor people of the locality to hold marriage functions. It has been left without electrification and other allied facilities. The Community Hall was constructed around 7 years ago by Rural Development Department. There are many things, which have not been completed due to which people can’t utilize it. No electrification has been done in the hall and the kitchen shed. Although DPR was made by the RDD for pending works but till date nothing has been done. The downtrodden people of the area including Raipur Satwari, Hakkal, Barjala etc. could have been benefited by this facility."
BALKAR SINGH: “Mast light has been lying defunct for the last seven years. This was installed by cantonment board. When we approached the Board to get it repaired we were told that there is no provision for repairing it."
TIRATH SINGH: “There are hundreds of kanals of land, where crop harvesting is done but irrigation water doesn’t reach at tail end due to no de-silting of canal.”
