SRINAGAR, Mar 6: A team of Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) was attacked by the owner of a private hospital located at Hyderpora after the team went there to verify the complaint that the hospital is running despite lapse of the registration.
Sources told Early Times that a team of DHSK led by Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar, Dr. Talat Ghani raided the premises of Classic Hospital, Hyderpora-Srinagar following complaints that the hospital is carrying on with its operations despite having no registration.
The hospital is located on the bye-pass that connects Baramulla in North Kashmir with Srinagar then Anantnag and ultimately Jammu.
Sources said that Dr. Javed Mir, owner of Classic Hospital along with some other employees carried out an attack on the team of DHSK as soon as they started to enquire about the functioning of the hospital. As the team members started to pose questions, Dr. Javed along with the other employees carried out attack on the team.
“The team members of DHSK were physically assaulted by Dr. Javed and his coterie. In fact choicest of invectives were hurled by the owner of the Classic hospital on the team members. There was chaos and confusion all around and the situation at one point of time went out of control. The female lady officer who was leading the team was manhandled by the attackers,” said sources.
Sources said that the raid was carried following complaints that despite lapse of registration the Classic Hospital is carrying on with its operation much in contravention of laid down rules and regulations. The sources said that the registration of the hospital expired some two years back and since then it has not been renewed.
It would be in place to mention here that Classic Hospital is located on the bye-pass and runs close to the high tension transmission lines. Although, the hospital administration was few years back directed by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to shift the hospital no such step was taken. As a result of this the patients admitted at the hospital are at the risk of losing their lives.
“Over the years the owner of the hospital has been able to grease the palms of the successive health ministers and health administrators and carried on with the operation of the hospital. Since no action has been taken against the hospital owner he has been emboldened and has been taking law into his own hands,” said sources.
Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar, Dr. Talal Ghani did not pick up the phone when contacted. However, she via Whatsapp messages admitted that a raid was carried out on Classic Hospital adding that the report would be submitted to the office of Director Health Services Kashmir.
