EARLY TIMES REPORT

SRINAGAR, Mar 6: The Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information Movement (J&K RTIM) has mocked at the organizers of Winter Games to carry on with the hosting of games despite the scare caused by the outbreak of Corona Virus.
Dr. Shaikh Ghulam Rasool, Chairman J&K RTIM believes that amid the Corona Virus outbreak having an event like Khelo India Winter Games-2020 at Gulmarg in Kashmir between March 7 and 11 is highly irresponsible. He said the event has created hysteria among the masses and such gatherings add to the number of infected. Advocate Irfan Hafiz of J&K RTIM says, “The event puts the lives of thousands of people travelling and the community of Kashmir in great risk and danger. So far the government of Jammu & Kashmir has not made any plans to reschedule or cancel the event. And there is no plan on how they will prepare against the spread of the epidemics when a couple of people are already suspected of the virus.”
J&K RTIM General Secretary, Dr. Fayaz Lone has appealed the government to not put millions of lives in danger and have this event cancelled or rescheduled for humanitarian purpose. Peer Mohiuddin, Vice Chairman of J&K RTIM said that the organization has initiated awareness among masses through the medium of Masjids and engaging with public health officials in urban and rural areas.
Quoting the WHO the J&K RTIM said that there are 95,265 reported cases of COVID-19 globally and 3, 281 deaths have taken place so far. It said that more people are susceptible to infection and some will suffer severe disease adding that globally about 3.4 percent of reported COVID-19 cases have died.
In India as the number of suspected and reported cases is swelling, a couple of cases have been suspected in Kashmir. It is a shock to the community that Winter Games event in Gulmarg, Kashmir has not been rescheduled or cancelled amid the outbreak, said the J&K RTIM.
