Coronavirus spreading fast
3/7/2020 12:07:26 AM
As the number of Coronavirus cases mounted to 30 across the country, the Jammu and Kashmir administration sounded an alert to save the Union Territory from getting caught in a sticky situation.
Advisories were issued and the people were asked to protect themselves. Efforts are afoot to keep J&K safe. But the big question which is looming large over the minds of people is will Coronavirus spare J&K?
Experts have already stated that the virus can infiltrate into J&K and it's just a matter of time. Scientists across the world are working overtime to come up with a vaccine against this deadly virus, which has been declared more dangerous than the swine flu. But so far no success has been achieved.
Recently World Health Organization (WHO) issued a statement saying that the protective gear to fight the virus is depleting fast. There was a sense of urgency in the WHO's statement. It was a sort of an appeal to the manufacturers of the protective gear not to trigger an artificial scarcity of the gear.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government has set up isolation wards in Jammu and Srinagar cities. But the bigger question is has J&K got enough stock of the protective gear needed to deal with the crisis, which is knocking at our door.
In Delhi primary schools have been closed till March 31. Authorities in the national capital don't want children to gather at one place. But the J&K government till now has not taken any such decision about the educational institutions as no one in J&K has tested positive.
For the past few days the authorities have been advising people to avoid large gatherings and functions. In fact the administration has for time being put the official functions on hold. If the gatherings are risky then the government should shut the educational institutions at least for a few days till the threat subsides. Prevention is always better than cure. Medicos have already made it clear that children and old aged people could easily fall prey to this deadly virus.
The measures which are being announced by the government need to be implemented on ground. The biggest challenge which J&K administration is facing is to screen every person returning from the countries which have been infected by the virus. Everyone in J&K seems worried. This worry and panic needs to be addressed through reassurance and by taking precautionary measures.
