Markets, roads turn deserted

Ramban, Mar 18: With ever increasing threat from Coronavirus, the markets, roads and other business establishments in Ramban District of Jammu and Kashmir has become deserted following the curb imposed by the District Administration Ramban since majority of the trade to Kashmir valley is passing through the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway falls in Ramban District forcing the administration to issue strict instructions to counter the growing threat of the Coronavirus pandemic which include curb on open of markets .
The officials told the Early Times that as precautionary measure to protect people from corona virus, District Administration Ramban has issued an order to impose Section 144 in Ramban District to stop the crowd from assembling at particular place .
The administration also made an appeal to the people to refrain from visiting the markets without any reason as all this will help them to keep check on spreading of disease.
Strict instructions was also issued to the officials to visited the market and took action against those who are violating standing orders from the administration. In this connection, a shop has been seized by Tehsildar Banihal for violating the order.
The administration and police in Ramban District are working together to distribute posters among people to aware them about Coronavirus.
The people inform that due to closure of the Market, the people are facing lot of difficulties, but added that they are cooperating with the authorities and said that while markets had been asked to shutdown, railway station at Banihal can cause problems for the people for which the central government is not taking any positive steps since keeping in view of closure of public transportation, their is heavy rush of passengers at Railway Stations— that too with out any proper checking as same could pose threat to the local population of Ramban District. The people were advised to not enter in any shop where one or two people were already inside and enter one by one instead of rushing inside at the time which was fixed by the administration as opening time for the markets which is 7am to 10am in the morning and 5pm to 7pm in the evening.
Beside this the administration has also set up various teams to keep an eye on day to day activities including reaching out to the people in the news of hour.
Markets in majority of the towns Viz Banihal, Ramban, Batote and importantly tourist resort Patni top also wore deserted look.
