Kathua Police take credit for doing nothing?
Poppy-straw smuggling case still absconding

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 18: After failing to nab the main kingpin in poppy straw smuggling case, Kathua Police on Wednesday tried to pat its back by making disclosures, which were already known to public.
The Kathua Police today organized a press conference in which it narrated a story about the arrest of a driver, Rajbeer Singh, son of Prem Nath of Sawan Chak on March 5 along with a Mahindra Bolero vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 200 kilograms of poppy-straw and during questioning the driver disclosed that the consignment was brought from Iftqar Dass son of Assauddin Dass of Anantnag and he was also arrested on March 12.
Moreover the driver had also disclosed that he was working for one Harpal Singh alias Balochi son of Puran Singh of Ward number 14 Kathua and he was the owner of the vehicle. His son was also arrested and on his disclosure an amount of Rs. 1.79 lakh was recovered.
However, the press release issued by police itself claimed that the consignment was of Harpal Singh alias Balochi, a known drug peddler, who has already been convicted and sentenced for 10 years by the Court in case FIR 170/2007.
Police claimed that the main accused Harpal Singh alias Balochi was absconding, so the question arises when the main kingpin, who is convicted and sentenced for 10 years is out of the hands of the police, then, why police are patting its back. “The disclosure about the arrest of a driver along with consignment of the nearly 200 kilograms of poppy-straw has been known to public as was carried out by a local newspaper on the next day of the arrest”, an official said, adding that the primary question is the failure of police to nab the kingpin, who could be running his smuggling racket with the help of his suppliers through online technology or phone calls, while sitting somewhere in the country or out of the country. “If the police would have nabbed the main kingpin then it would again be a small achievement of police as the kingpin is known to all and the police usually have track and intelligence inputs about the activities of the repeated offenders. Kathua police are claiming that he is the kingpin and is absconding without arresting him Kathua Police are trying to take credit,” the official claimed.
