SRINAGAR, Apr 7: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached three as one more person passed away today. The person who died today was a resident of Gund-I-Jehangir in the North Kashmir's Bandipora district.
Reports said that the deceased person was admitted at the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar on Monday. He had complained of fever, cough and breathlessness at the time of admission in the hospital. After his death the report of COVID-19 was received by the hospital that confirmed that the person was affected by Corona Virus.
In the meantime, 16 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the union territory. With the fresh cases reported today the number of positive cases of Corona Virus reached 125. Since four persons have recovered and three others have died the number of active cases in Jammu & Kashmir are 118.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 37,713 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance in Jammu & Kashmir and so far 125 cases have tested positive for novel Corona Virus.
"Out of 125 positive cases, 118 are active positive, four have recovered and three have died. Furthermore, 9,209 persons have been kept in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 567 in hospital quarantine, 118 in hospital isolation and 20,735 under home surveillance," said the media bulletin.
The media bulletin said that besides, 7,084 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. It said that till date 1,900 samples have been sent for testing of which 1,763 have tested as negative and 12 reports are awaited till April 7, 2020.
According to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, the general public has been urged to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily. It also urged people to stay active and follow short exercises workout plan to stay healthy.
"During the Covid-19 pandemic, when so many of us are very restricted in our movements, it is even more important for people of all ages and abilities to be as active as possible. Even a short break from sitting, by doing 3-5 minutes of physical movement, such as walking indoor or stretching, will help ease muscle strain, relieve mental tension and improve blood circulation and muscle activity," the advisory said.
The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly by calling on Covid-19 helpline numbers so that they can be provided correct medical advice and directed to the right health facility, if needed.
In the meantime, 34 more persons who were shifted into administrative quarantine upon their return to Srinagar two weeks ago were discharged today after successfully completing their 14-day quarantine period. All except one in this group belonged to Srinagar district.
Upon being discharged all these persons were ferried home. Concerned supervising officers oversaw their discharge and their transportation. The group like all others before was under thorough medical supervision throughout their quarantine period and was discharged after clearance from doctors and health authorities.
