Door to door survey to identify COVID-19 suspects in Jammu seems a cosmetic exercise
Teams without protective gear, wearing simply masks rather than N-95

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 27: The door to door survey launched by government in the district Jammu to identity COVID-19 suspects, is appeared to be merely a cosmetic exercise as the surveyors are found completing the written formalities of taking names and phone numbers. Moreover the safety of the survey teams is also at God’s mercy as they were found without any protective gear, wearing simple masks rather than even N-95 masks.
The survey teams conducted by government to conduct door to door survey in district Jammu, which is declared red zone, today visited various localities of the city, where they conducted the door to door survey.
“One survey team comprising two members visited several households of the Chatha locality and the team members rang the doorbell but the insiders didn’t respond as it was afternoon time and mostly inhabitants sleep. The team returned back,” a local said, adding that even in other households, the team members simply took name of all people in one house and also phone number of a family member.
While returning back one team member simply asked if someone has any symptom such as cough or fever. Similarly in the Gangyal locality, another team visited and they also took the names and a phone number of one family member. “How by taking phone numbers and only names and merely asking for the symptoms from the scared public, the door to door survey to identify the suspects can be fruitful,” a local said.
An official pleading anonymity claimed that it was merely a cosmetic exercise on the part of the teams constituted by the government, who have been completing the formalities. “The survey teams are also without any protective gear. They are found simply wearing the normal masks rather than even surgical masks,” a local said, adding that what about the safety of the survey teams, who have been visiting several localities, and interacting with different types of people, without any protective gear.
“What the government is trying to achieve by simply getting names and phone numbers of the people and even leaving some is still unknown. But one thing is clear, there are very remote possibilities that all suspects could be found by such practice,” an official said.
