SFs up ante at militants; 15 killed, 1 arrested in 10 days in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 28 : Security forces have upped the ante at militants even as 15 ultras have been killed and one has been arrested in six different operations during the last 10 days in Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, three CRPF jawans were killed and two others were injured in a militant attack in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
Official sources said that three militants were killed in an encounter at Lower Munda in Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Monday. The gunfight ensued after militants attacked a patrolling party.
They said one militant associate was killed on Sunday in an encounter at Asthal in south Kashmir district of Kulgam. Earlier it was reported that four militants were killed in the encounter though police issued a clarification stating that only one militant associate was killed while the rest of the ultras managed to escape.
“Two militants and one Over Ground Worker (OGW) were on April 25 killed in an encounter with security forces at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama,” they said.
A Constable was rescued and two militants were on April 24 killed in a brief encounter, hours after they abducted a policeman in Kulgam.
They said a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant, identified as Shakir Alie, was arrested along with arms and ammunition at Nihama in Kulgam on April 24.
“Militants on April 23 lobbed a grenade at a CRPF camp at Dooniwari, Chadoora in central Kashmir district of Budgam,” they said, adding no one was injured in the attack.
On April 23, a policeman, who was abducted by unidentified militants from his residence late, was set free in south Kashmir district of Shopian.
Four militants were on April 22 killed in an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Melhoora in Shopian.
They said three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were on April 18 killed and two others were injured in a militant attack on a Naka party at Sopore in Baramulla.
“Two militants were on April 17 killed in an encounter which ensued during a CASO launched by security forces at Keegan in Shopian,” they added.
