Srinagar, May 14 : No congregational Shab-e-Qadar prayers would be offered in any mosque in the Kashmir valley this holy month of Ramdhan due to lockdown following coronavirus threat.
However, decision about Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, marking the end of holy fasting month, will be taken later as the thanks giving prayers cannot be offered in houses, Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said.
He has already urged people of the Kashmir valley to offer prayers, including “ Taraweeh” during the holy month in their homes to avoid social gathering in worship places amid the outbreak of coronavirus.
Grand Mufti urged people not to organise any congregational prayers on the occasion of Shab-e-Qadar in mosques or any other religious place this time to defeat the coronavirus.
Appealing to people to follow the lockdown announced by the government, he said we will be able to eradicate the virus once we follow government instruction and offer prayers in our homes.
However, he said, since Eid prayers cannot be offered in homes, the matter will be taken up with the administration to find a way out. The Thanks giving prayers are offered collectively in Eidgahs, Shrines and other mosques, he said adding it cannot be therefore offered at homes, Grand Mufti said adding Taraweeh prayers could be offered at home.
He said this time people have to pay “Sadaq-e-Fitr” at the rate of Rs 55 per person in the valley. However, people can pay more, he added.
