Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 14: Amid complaints of procurement of “fake PPEs” from a local vendor, a government hospital in Srinagar has come under the scanner for elevating an “influential” doctor as the head for making deals for Covid19 related procurements.
Sources said the doctor, who was appointed by the previous Peoples Democratic Party led government through alleged favoritism is now the favorite with the head of the hospital in Bemina locality here and that the two are in touch with some “friendly “ dealers for procurement of the COVID19 related items worth millions.
Sources said the allegedly influential doctor who has done is MBBS from Russia has been calling the shots in the hospitals given his close affinity with the hospital bosses.
Sources said the medico has been holding key charges for the last four odd years and is often sent to attend key events outside the Union Territory as well.
“He is often sent on luxury trips at expenditure which he is officially not entitled to,” said some senior doctors on the condition of anonymity.
The doctors said the said medico has also been given the other crucial charges. “Why are so many charges being given to him when under rules he is not entitled to any such charge and why is the administration silent over it?” the doctors asked.
The medicos said the allegedly influential doctor is so “powerful that he dictates terms even to his far seniors. “
“Favoritism and corruption are breaking records and we are being left with no options but to file a formal complaint with the government,” the doctors said.
The medicos said they would file a formal complaint with the Lieutenant Governor LG Murmu over the issue.
When contacted a senior official at the Bemina hospital defended the allegedly influential medico. “He is a dedicated doctor,” said the official on the condition of anonymity.
