SRINAGAR, May 14: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir saw some relief in the Corona Virus cases as mere 12 cases were reported today from some of the districts. There is some encouraging news on the recovery front as well since around 50 percent COVID-19 patients have recovered so far.
Reports said that out of the 12 cases reported today five came up from Srinagar district, Ramban three cases, Shopian two cases and Pulwama and Udhampur districts reporting one case each. With today’s fresh cases there are 983 positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir with 487 being active positive. Eleven persons have died and 485 COVID-19 patients have recovered.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 12 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), four from Jammu division and eight from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 983.
Out of 983 positive cases, 487 are active positive, 485 have recovered and 11 have died. Moreover, 19 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 63,515 test results available, 62,532 samples have tested as negative till May 14, 2020.
Furthermore, till date 1,03,290 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 26,603 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 152 in hospital quarantine, 487 in hospital isolation and 12,383 under home surveillance. Besides, 63,654 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 145 positive cases with 121 active positive, 23 recovered, one death; Srinagar has 142 positive cases with 54 active positive, 84 recovered, four deaths; Bandipora has 134 positive cases with 16 active positive, 117 recovered, one death and Baramulla has 110 positive cases with 50 active positive, 57 recovered, three deaths.
“Shopian has 107 positive cases with 47 active positive, 60 recovered; Kupwara has 83 positive cases with 38 active positive, 45 recovered; Budgam has 52 positive cases with 34 active positive and 18 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 23 positive cases with nine active cases and 14 recoveries; Kulgam has 72 positive cases with 66 active positive and six recoveries and Pulwama reported 14 positive cases with 10 active positive, four recovered,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 38 positive cases with 11 active positive cases and 26 recoveries and one death; Udhampur has 22 positive cases with three active positive cases, 19 recovered and one death and Samba has 11 positive cases with seven active positive and four recoveries.
“Rajouri has four positive cases and all have recovered; Kathua has 17 positive cases with 16 active positive and one recovered; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered; Ramban has four positive cases, three active positive, one recovered and Reasi has three positive cases with two active positive and one recovered,” said the bulletin.
As per the bulletin, the public in general has been informed that smokers are at higher risk of COVID-19 infection , Stop Smoking now; The act of smoking means that fingers (and possibly contaminated cigarettes) are in contact with lips which increase the possibility of transmission of virus from hand to mouth, smokers may also already have lung disease or reduced lung capacity which would greatly increase risk of serious illness, smoking products such as water pipes often involve the sharing of mouth pieces and hoses, which could facilitate the transmission of COVID-19 and conditions that increase oxygen needs or reduce the ability of the body to use it properly will put patients at higher risk of serious lung conditions such as pneumonia.
