Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 14: Editor-in-Chief Early Times, Munish Gupta, has urged the authorities to pay serious attention towards various civic problems being faced by the residents of Sector-7 particularly Lane Numbers 2, 3 and 4 of that area.
Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency, said, “Residents of Lane Numbers 2, 3 and 4 in Sector-7 of Nanak Nagar are in distress due to lack of basic civic amenities. Their sufferings cannot be ignored anymore. The difficulties being faced by them must be addressed by the administration without any further delay.” Munish said, “Residents were fed up with promises and assurances with regard to upgrading the facilities but they remained at the receiving end so far as nothing substantial was done to satisfy their demands. The administration must work overtime to take care of people’s needs.”
Meanwhile, residents of Lane Numbers 2, 3 and 4 in Sector-7 of Nanak Nagar area while talking to Early Times said that callous attitude of the concerned authorities has left them in lurch with the result they are facing lot of difficulties.
The residents decry underdevelopment adding that the authorities are not addressing their plight.
“There are several issues which need immediate attention of the authorities. Dilapidated condition of lanes, unhygienic situation of the area, choked drains besides several other problems have made our lives pitiable,” said the residents.
“The interior roads are in pathetic condition since several years. Majority of the roads in the area are either completely damaged or have developed potholes. Each day, somebody or the other meets with an accident and gets injured. People are suffering due to bad roads but the authorities have turned a deaf ear towards their repair and improvement. People of the area are losing their patience due to continuous official apathy,” said one of the residents.
Several locals said that the piles of garbage lie scattered on roads while the drains are choked with garbage, adding that the concerned authorities have miserably failed in ensuring better upkeep of the area.
“Most of the drains are overflowing due to blockage while vacant spaces in the locality have been acting as garbage dumping sites. They are a big source of nuisance for the inhabitants as foul smell emanates in the surroundings,” said the residents.
“The drains are choked for the last so many years but we never witnessed desilting taking place ever to cleanse them. It should be done on regular basis in order to regulate the flow of sewage. The garbage should also be collected frequently so as to avoid its littering,” they added. Residents asked the concerned authorities to take notice of the poor condition of their locality and initiate corrective measures as soon as possible.
“We urge the authorities to take up the upgradation of existing infrastructure on priority basis. The maintenance of interior roads and drains should go on throughout the year and not just limited to an annual ritual, which is not even happening for years together,” said the residents.
