Banks should be empathetic in Covid Relief Distribution: Mukti NGO
5/16/2020 9:23:52 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 16: Welcoming the latest financial package worth Rs. 20 Lac Crores announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to boost up the national economy & help the affected people due to lockdown caused due to Corona Pandemic, Nidhi Sharma, Chairperson of Mukti NGO, a Jammu based women welfare organization appreciated the union government for unrolling of slew of pro poor schemes but she also cautioned the government to ensure that only the genuine beneficiaries get the relief without hassle.
Nidhi Said the Union government have covered almost every section of the society including Industrialists, farmers, labors, roadside vendors, artisans & self help groups & this is a huge amount but it can reach the real beneficiaries only if the respective units of the federal system i.e. different departments & ministries of the union government, State Governments, Union Territory administrations & most importantly the banks remain pro active & sensitive towards the plight of the affected people.
She emphasized that 70 to 80 percent of the schemes are to be distributed directly through banks & success or failure of all the Covid relief package depends upon the attitude, approach of the banks.
Citing the example of Jammu & Kashmir Union territory, she said most of the schemes announced by the union government are to be routed through Jammu & Kashmir bank thus J & K UT government along with Reserve Bank of India & management of the J & K bank must educate & sensitize all branch managers & especially loan managers of the banks to accept & reject loan applications in time bound manner & set up an appellate mechanism in the banks so that the genuine affected farmers, the entrepreneurs, Industrialist & the proprietors of the MSMEs whose loan applications are rejected without any logic & reasoning by the bank officers may approach the RBI or the government & then action is ensured against the delinquent bank officers for lapses.
She appealed the RBI to ensure that the banks do not discriminate in granting relief loan and ensure transparency so that each penny of Covid Relief Package reaches the real beneficiary & there must not be any discretionary power of the branch heads of the banks.
