EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 9: With University of Kashmir mulling to go for merit basis admission for various Post Graduation entrance exam this year through merit basis, scores of aspirants with low grades have raised question over the decision of the varsity and have asked institute to look over the proposal.
The University of Kashmir had tentatively had scheduled Kashmir University Entrance Test -2020 in the month of March, however with Coronavirus pandemic, the exam eventually got delayed.
While last week University issued a circular where it stated in view of the prevailing situation it will be not be possible to conduct the entrance test as such the admission to various PG programmes for current academic session shall be made on the basis of the merit/score obtained by the candidates in the qualifying examination.
Meanwhile score of aspirants who were preparing for the exam said, “We understand that there situation is not fruitful but that does not meant that university come with such a circular where admission will be done on the basis of merit by the candidate”, said Mushtaq, a student.
He added that we have been preparing for the exam for the very long time and with such decision where will students like me go who have less percentage in their graduation degree. Another student raised the same voice and said, “This is not done, this is unexpected on Universities part, they are playing with many students career, where will go for studies with less score go”
She added, “Having high merit does not mean that aspirants will qualify for entrance exam, there are high chances that students with low grade can qualify exams. We aspirants request the university authorities to look into the circular and arrange exams if it takes two to three months as career of many students is on line.
A senior official at the Kashmir University said that a committee has recommended for admission for PG programmes after looking into the current pandemic, however, the final decision is yet to be put forward that will be issued in a weeks to come.
