MC Rajouri becomes hub of irregularities, illegal constructions continue

Early Times Report

RAJOURI, June 9: Municipal Council (MC) Rajouri has miserably failed to curb illegal construction of buildings across the town due to wide spread irregularities within the department, which allegedly issue illegal permissions.
Sources told Early Times that commercial buildings are constructed in guise of permissions of residential buildings with active involvement of some officials of the Council.
Awami Neta and Chairman of Azad Party Rajouri Yogesh Sharma accused the Municipal Council Rajouri of passing building maps in gross violation of the laid down norms. “Designs of residential buildings are passed but commercial buildings are getting constructed but officials of Council remain quiet and never interfere in the illegal activities. Not only this, even there are more serious violations being committed in construction of buildings. Despite permissions of not raising building more than three storeys, several five to six storeyed buildings have come up in the town,” he alleged.
He further said that there are no street lights in many areas while many lying defunct and never repaired but shockingly the funds are released but never used for the purpose. “The sanitation in MC limit is never taken care of, which can be gauged from the fact the drains remain clogged and dirty water comes out of the drain and spills on to the road,” he alleged, adding that MC Rajouri takes no action against the people who put building material for constructions on road, which led to accidents.
“Already roads in the town are very narrow and putting building material on road make it difficult to cross,” he said, adding that the town is also facing difficulty in managing garbage generated on daily basis but apathy of the Council can be imagined from the fact that it failed to identify land for the construction of Solid Waste Treatment Plant.
He alleged that MC Rajouri has become hub of corruption where poor and genuine people are discouraged and illegal works are done with impunity.
He appealed to DDC Rajouri to take strict action against the MC Rajouri administration. He also urged the LG to transfer the entire staff and demanded to deploy new staff barring local employees. He said that an investigation team should be constituted to check wrong doings of MC Rajouri.
When contacted the Chairman MC Rajouri Arif Jatt said that he would look into the matter. Meanwhile, Incharge Executive Officer MC Rajouri Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, said that he had just joined and he will find out the fact and action will be taken if any irregularities were found.
