6/13/2020 9:19:57 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

Bandipora, June 13: Security forces on Saturday destroyed a suspected improvised explosive device (IED), planted on the roadside along Bandipora-Srinagar highway near Gamroo-Lawdara crossing in north Kashmir’s Bandipora.
A senior officer said that a road opening party and explosive Detective Dog (ED Dog) detected the suspicious IED lying by the roadside in the morning near Gamroo-Lawdara crossing following which bomb disposal squad (BDS) was called in.
He said the IED was planted inside a gas cylinder on the roadside and was later defused after six hours by police’s bomb disposal squad.
The official said that following the detection of suspected IED, traffic on Bandipora-Srinagar highway was halted from both sides as a precautionary measure.
He said the traffic was diverted to other routes and the whole area was sealed where the suspected IED was planted and later defused.
A police spokesman said, “Today at around 06:30 am, ROP party of CRPF 3rd Bn spotted a suspicious wire fitted with gas cylinder along the roadside at Lawdara crossing near Nadihal on Bandipora-Srinagar highway. The area was immediately sealed by joint forces and traffic movement stopped”
He added, “Bomb disposal squads of Police, Army and CRPF were pressed into action to diffuse the IED, who successfully diffused and destroyed it on spot without any damag”.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the IED was planted to target the SF convoys passing through the area, which was successfully thwarted by the joint efforts of police and SF.
Case FIR No. 61/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bandipora and investigation initiated.
Pertinently, on March 19 an IED was defused by BDS which was planted near higher secondary school Nadihal which is very close to this area.
