SRINAGAR, June 13: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 55 as two more persons fell prey to the virus in the valley today. In the meantime, 148 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from the union territory today.
Reports said that a doctor putting up in the Parraypora area of Srinagar died due to COPD today at the JVC Bemina Hospital. The doctor basically a resident of Baramulla had tested positive for COVID-19 few days back and was admitted to the hospital. Later in the day a resident of Shopian died at the SMHS Hospital. The man seemingly died due to the pneumonia which he was having.
Meanwhile, Kulgam reported 45 fresh cases of Corona Virus followed by Shopian 15 cases, Srinagar 12 cases, Pulwama nine cases, Baramulla, Doda, Budgam and Samba eight cases each, Kupwara seven cases, Jammu and Kathua six cases each, Rajouri five cases, Bandipora three cases, Ganderbal, Ramban and Udhampur two cases each and Anantnag & Poonch one case each. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 148 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 38 from Jammu division and 110 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 4,878. Also, two COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir division.
Moreover, 183 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 35 from Jammu division and 148 from Kashmir division. Out of 4,878 positive cases, 2,554 are active positive, 2,269 have recovered and 55 have died; six in Jammu division and 49 in Kashmir division. It said that out of 2, 60,098 test results available, 2, 55,220 samples have been tested as negative till date.
Additionally, till date 2, 33,241 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 41,570 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 29 in Hospital Quarantine, 2,554 in hospital isolation and 54,840 under home surveillance. Besides, 1, 34,193 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Kulgam has 615 positive cases, 309 active positive, 298 recoveries, eight deaths, Srinagar has 514 positive cases, 338 active positive, 164 recovered, 13 deaths; Baramulla has 512 positive cases, 338 active positive, 164 recovered, 10 deaths; Anantnag district has 484 positive cases, 118 active positive, 361 recovered, five deaths; Shopian has 493 positive cases, 214 active positive, 274 recovered, five deaths.
“Kupwara has 388 positive cases, 109 active positive, 276 recovered, three deaths; Bandipora has 236 positive cases, 62 active positive, 173 recovered, one death; Budgam has 228 positive cases, 119 active positive, 107 recovered, two deaths; Pulwama reported 212, positive cases, 177 active positive, 33 recovered, two deaths and Ganderbal has 61 positive cases, 22 active positive, 39 recoveries,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 267 positive cases, 144 active positive, 120 recoveries, three deaths; Ramban has 195 positive cases, 140 active positive, 55 recoveries; Udhampur has 155 positive cases, 117 active positive, 37 recovered, one death; Kathua has 155 positive cases, 86 active positive, 69 recovered; Poonch has 104 positive cases, 74 active positive, 30 recoveries.
“Samba has 91 positive cases, 63 active positive, 28 recoveries; Rajouri has 65 positive cases, 52 active positive, 12 recovered, one death; Doda has 57 positive cases, 34 active positive, 22 recoveries, one death; Reasi has 24 positive cases, 13 active positive, 11 recovered and Kishtwar has 22 positive cases, 18 active positive, four recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 4,878 positive cases in J&K, 1,745 have been reported as travelers while 3133 as others.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
