Early Times Report

Jammu, June 13: Within days after the first patient was tested positive for Coronavirus in J&K, the UT administration had announced to provide health insurance to all residents of J-K.
Although an announcement in this regard was made, no further action has been taken so far.
On March 18 this year, the UT administration had announced that around 1.25 crore residents of J&K will be provided the same benefits as are provided under Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY. People were hoping that they would get health insurance but most of the patients suffering from different ailments are spending money from their pockets.
As per official record, the government had extended the free health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family to all the 1.25 crore residents of the UT.
The decision came at a meeting of the advisory council chaired by UT’s Lt Governor G C Murmu which accorded sanction to rolling out the Jammu & Kashmir Health Scheme to provide free of cost Universal Health Coverage to all residents of the Union Territory in convergence with Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY.
It was announced that apart from nearly 6 lakh families covered under
Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY, around 15 lakh additional families will be covered under the Jammu & Kashmir Health Scheme.
Under Universal Health Coverage announced by the government, the beneficiaries shall be entitled to free health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year on a floater basis and there is no restriction on family size, age or gender. All pre-existing illnesses shall also be covered besides; cashless services shall also be available in all the empanelled hospitals.
