50 kanals of forest land encroached in Nowshera forest division, no action taken so far

RAJOURI, Aug 16: There seems to be no end to the encroachment of forest land in the Nowshera forest division of this district and the people allege that officials of the forest department take no action since they are in league with forest smugglers.
Early Times has learnt from sources that around 50 kanals of forest land has been encroached by forest smugglers in the Nowshera forest division in the recent past. The huge chunk of land falls under compartment number 86/N in the Killa Draal tehsil of Rajouri district.
“The forest smugglers have constructed a kuccha house inside the forest compartment and no action has been taken so far. The forest guard who has been posted in the forest division Nowshera is an eye-witness to this disturbing development since his house falls very close to the concerned forest division,” said sources.
Sources said that the forest department is not taking any action against the forest smugglers since they are influential adding that action is taken against such people who don’t have any patronage. They said the closure erected by the department has been damaged by forest smugglers and no recourse has been taken so far.
“In the past five concrete houses have been constructed by forest smugglers but still then no action has been taken against these people.
The officials of forest department are facilitating the same and it is due to this reason that they are action as mute spectators to all the developments,” said sources.
The locals have appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to order a probe in the matter and ensure that action is taken in the matter. When contacted Divisional Forest Officer, Nowshera Suresh Manda said that the department takes action as and when they receive complaints.
