Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Aug 16: The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) has come up as a perfect rehabilitation centre for academicians who retire from other varsities and get absorbed here while blocking opportunities for new talent.
Sources told Early Times that the people at helm at the varsity have made it a habit of appointing their kith and kin on the different positions while bye-passing the rules and regulations lay down in this regard. In some cases academicians who retired have been reappointed on contract basis.
“In one such case spouse of a person occupying a top notch position at the varsity was appointed as permanent professor in the department of education even though she retired as professor first at University of Kashmir and then at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri,” said sources.
Sources said that the appointment of professor came under scanner since her husband was looking after the entire recruitment process himself. They said that fingers were raised by many academicians over the appointment of professor, adding that these people said that the process was not a transparent one.
“The story does not end here as the professor who retired at the Central University of Kashmir as well was re-appointed as professor on contract basis some months back. Chances of young research scholars and post-graduates to work at the varsity are being blocked on regular basis since the retired academicians are being reappointed on contract basis,” said sources.
Sources said that the appointment of yet another top notch position at Central University of Kashmir has also come under radar since the person who was appointed oversaw the whole recruitment process himself. They said that transparency is virtually impossible in a situation where a candidate himself oversees the whole process.
“The person who was appointed on this top notch position came on deputation from University of Kashmir where he was working as professor in one of science departments. He after returning from University of Kashmir set up the same department at Central University of Kashmir and became professor,” said sources.
Sources said that the person in question was working on the position which he has assumed on full time basis in the past as well. They said that in the past he was working on the position assumed on deputation basis and the same got confirmed after the recent process wherein he was a candidate but oversaw the whole process.
Sources said that yet another close relative of top notch position holder at the varsity has been given an important responsibility at the university. They said that kith and kin of people at helm are being adjusted on different positions at the university and there is no one to seek answer from them in this regard.
