Dynasts go silent as Modi’s Independence Day speech reverberates in Kashmir
8/17/2020 12:17:05 AM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 16: In a significant development after the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, the Independence Day speech by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Saturday reverberated in the summer capital of Srinagar here as government had installed big TVs at public places for live telecast of the event.
Srinagar on Saturday woke up to a major change on the Independence Day as the huge TV sets were seen installed at places including the Jahangir Chowk where passerby got a chance to watch the live speech of the Prime Minister from the historic Red Fort.
It’s the first such historic development to have taken place in Kashmir, the place that would usually be provoked by the anti-national forces in the past.
But today, Kashmir could get the glimpse of the PM right at public places for his close to 90-minute speech.
Ironically, however, two of the former Chief Ministers –Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, both of whom are otherwise active on the social media especially Twitter remained silent for the big day. The duo, didn’t even bother to start their day by greeting the people on the Independence Day. While Omar, who is also the National Conference President, has time to tweet about routine matters and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s account tweets everything about so called Chinese presence in Ladakh, both of them remained silent on the Independence Day.
“Actually these dynasts behave like separatists when out of power and tend to become Indians when in power,” quipped an analyst.
Interestingly, Modi hinted at holding of elections once the delimitation exercise is completed in Jammu and Kashmir.
But Modi’s speech as aired live at public places in Kashmir seems to have left the dynasts shocked.
Despite repeated attempts Omar or Mehbooba couldn’t be contacted for comments.
