Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 18: Blaming the hospital authorities for their alleged negligence resulting into the death of a patient, the angry people including the relatives of the patient today afternoon ransacked District Hospital Kishtwar property.
The relatives alleged that there was non availability of oxygen for the patient who later collapsed resulted into his death. The charge denied by the hospital authorities.
As per the details available with Early Times, 64 year old Asgar Hussain Mir, an Asthma patient was brought to District Hospital Kishtwar by his family members after doctor advised them for his immediate shifting to Government Medical College Jammu for further treatment.
The angry relatives alleged that after reaching at Hospital the patient was denied medical attention as well as oxygen required for the patient adding that despite making calls to 108 ambulance service operators consume lot of time in providing the service.
Umar Mir; nephew of the deceased said that crucial time was wasted by the officials at Kishtwar Hospital as well as by the ambulance services which become a main reason for the death of his uncle.
Umar said that they brought the patient at District Hospital Kishtwar where the authorities fail to provide him the oxygen adding that somehow the patient coped up with the non availability of the oxygen for about an hour and said that after arrival of the ambulance provided by the 108 Ambulance services, they started feeling relaxed.
He said that after shifting the patient inside the ambulance-to their surprise the oxygen supplying system inside the ambulance didn’t function adding that after half an hour they found that the oxygen cylinder installed inside the ambulance was empty and required changing.
“When 108 ambulance service arrived-we shifted the patient inside ambulance- surprisingly the ambulance lacked oxygen as the oxygen cylinder was empty- till the oxygen was arranged - it was too late- the patent collapsed due to lack of oxygen and high temperature and died” said Umar.
The hospital authorities while reacting to the allegations put the blame on 108 ambulance service and slam the people for damaging the hospital property. Officials said that patient was brought by the family members to hospital premises only to catch ambulance service from 108 since the service provider mostly didn’t pick up the patients from home.
The hospital staff and the doctors told the Early Times that ransacking hospital property is highly condemnable and called on the administration and the government to take measures to prevent such incidents inside the hospitals-not only in Kishtwar District, but in entire country including in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
