IUST violates MoE guidelines, conducts online interviews for Registrar’s post
‘Aggrieved candidates seek LG Manoj Sinha’s intervention’

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 18: Despite the Ministry of Education (MoE) directing the higher education institutions to call off the online recruitment process, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora conducted online interviews last week for the post of Registrar.
As per the aspirants, the online interview was conducted without informing them in advance and the poor internet connection left them embarrassed as they couldn’t hear the experts properly neither they were audible to them.
The interview notice [No, IUST/Reg/Adm/E/20/585 Dated 31-07-2020], a copy of which lies with Early Times, informed eligible candidates to be present in university Campus on 10th of August 2020.
“It was nowhere mentioned in the interview notice or in call letter that the interview will be held through virtual mode,” an aspirant said.
The candidates said that only three members of the selection committee were present where as the two experts joined through virtual mode.
“The first expert asked a question but due to poor connectivity I couldn’t get him and the conversation ended quickly on Ok Ok note. Similarly I requested the second expert to repeat the question but it also didn’t end well despite the Vice-Chancellor himself offering me his phone but I declined as it was unethical practice,” he said.
Another aspirant claimed that he faced a similar situation and even was asked to leave the room in a disrespectful manner by the members of the selection committee. They said that the process of selecting a Registrar took place when MHRD, the Ministry of Education directed Central University of Rajasthan to call off the online recruitment process.
The MHRD vide letter no 48-9/2020-CU.iii dt 29-07-2020 informed the Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Rajasthan to "call off all recruitment processes through online mode with immediate effect and also cancel the online selection committees held so far'. But, Islamic University of Science and Technology in brazen violation to this guideline which prima facie is a binding for all Universities in the country held the interview for the post of Registrar through an online mode. However, surprisingly the university authorities cancelled the interview for the post of Assistant Professor, Watson-Crick Centre for Molecular Medicines.
The posts were advertised two days before the post of Registrar.
Sources revealed to Early Times that IUST has been advertising the post of Registrar since 2018; however the process of selecting a candidate was cancelled multiple times due to unknown reasons.
In a first, they said, the post of Registrar was advertised on 5th of October in 2017 and interviews were conducted by the selection committee on 23rd of October in the same at SKICC; however the process was mysteriously nullified.
“Then he (VC) offered again the deputation of blue-eyed college but the candidates represented before the Government. However, he managed his deputation the moment the BJP/PDP govt collapsed,” they claimed.
The candidates, who are now demanding cancellation of the process, have approached LG Manoj Sinha.
“We have written to Hon’ble LG regarding this issue as the whole process was done in violation of the guidelines issued by the Ministry and unethical practice has been adopted which is unacceptable,” they said.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University wasn’t available for his comments.
