LG Sinha may get new Advisors
8/19/2020 12:28:05 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 18: Even as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, GC Murmu left the chair in a midnight development, his successor Manoj Sinha may get some new Advisors.
Top sources told the Early Times that New Delhi has gone for “total revamp” of policy on Jammu and Kashmir where Sinha “fits in the new scenario owing to his vast experience in politics from country’s election hub” of Uttar Pradesh.
Sources said Sinha would be given a choice to select his own team of Advisors to run the affairs in the Union Territory.
Sources said Sinha will initially look at the performance of the existing Advisors and take a final call on the decision in the coming weeks.
Sources said while it was not sure if any of the incumbent Advisors would be shown the door but that some new faces were likely to be inducted.
Sources said Sinha, who enjoys personal relations with the Prime Minister Nardendra Modi, has already been apprised about the issue of Advisors.
It is pertinent to mention that the team of Advisors was revamped after the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, when Murmu became the first LG.
While some of the old faces were retained, some of them like Khurshid Ganie were shown the door.
Sources said the decision on Advisors would be taken on basis of performance in the last few months.
Sources said New Delhi has the “performance card” of the Advisors and that their fate would be decided at a high level meeting to which Sinha will be privy to.
“New Delhi will surely decide about the Advisors but only after taking Sinha into confidence and as for now he will personally monitor their performance,” said a top source in New Delhi.
It is pertinent to mention that Advisors enjoy the status of ministers and play a key role in the functioning of the government in the absence of a democratically elected government.
