Waterlogged lanes, submerged roads: Rain paralyses Aman Vihar in Gol Gujral
8/21/2020 12:39:11 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 20: The visuals of almost submerged lanes and waterlogged interior roads from Aman Vihar, Phase 1 of Gole Gujral area in Ward No 32 in Jammu are self-speaking and enough proof to expose the city’s lack of planning to deal with the monsoon.
The pictures are a telling tale of complete neglect and official apathy of the locality which was completely paralysed by heavy rains.
Narrating their tale of woes to Early Times, a large number of locals residents of Aman Vihar said that water logging in the interior roads of their locality is not a new phenomenon as the residential area experiences it whenever there is even little bit of rain, adding that the basic reason behind regular stagnation of water is administrative carelessness as the concerned authorities hardly pay any attention towards desilting of clogged drains.
“Interior roads in Aman Vihar particularly in Lane Number 1 get completely filled with water whenever there is rain. People are having trouble passing through these water logged roads,” the residents said.
“Muddy water gets collected outside the gates of the residences. There is also a Gurudwara in Lane Number 1 but it becomes almost impossible for the residents to reach there taking the normal route as due to stagnation of water the road gets inundated, so people are forced to adopt a long pass for going to the Gurudwara,” they added. Few of the residents including Sarbjeet Singh, Navjot Singh, Tanveer Singh, Balmeet Singh, Amritpal Singh and others said that the problem of water logging was even brought to the notice of the concerned authorities but no action was taken.
“We informed the UEED about the persisting problem but instead of doing anything substantial they passed the buck on to the Jammu Municipal Corporation as the representation submitted by us before the UEED was forwarded to the JMC Commissioner, dated 15/01/2019, No: CE/UEED/CJ/PS /1135-37, however, nothing was done,” they said. The local residents complained that no one pays proper attention to this problem of water logging whether it is the local Councilor, the former MLA or the concerned authorities despite making fervent appeals and repeated requests to them.
