EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 20: In a brazen violation of rules and regulations, a contractor engaged by the PMGSY Department for construction of Sigdi-Bhata road falling under PMGSY Division Chatroo was found using substandard material for construction of the road besides also engaging the minor children for hazardous work forcing the Child Welfare Broad to intervene into the matter.
Sources told Early Times that the contractor and the officials of the PMGSY Division Chatroo are hand in glove as the man executing the job is keeping a non-serious approach towards maintaining quality by using sub-standard material in construction work while he is also engaging juveniles for tedious work of laying stones mixed with clay.
Speaking to the Early Times, the locals said that this action of contractor also put the life of commuters at risk beside huge loss to state exchequer and violates Juvenile Justice Act.
The public of the area has appealed to government for immediate cognizance of alleged violations.
When contacted, Executive Engineer PMGSY Chatroo, Jugal Kishore said that he will personally visit the construction site and will verify the claims, the video of which has already gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, District Child Protection Officer Kishtwar, Tariq Parvaiz Qazi told the Early Times that he had already issued directions to Child Protection Officer to look into the matter, adding that both the children who were visible in the video had been produced before the Child Welfare Committee.
“We are verifying the facts, the age of the children and other details. Let me assure you that guilty officials will not be allowed to go scot free,” said Qazi.
He also warned the people about sharing such videos revealing the identity of the minors in social media. He said that revealing the identity of the minors who are victims of child labour or any other atrocities is a criminal offence.
“We are verifying the age of the children seen in the video, we are on the job” he added.
