Give due representation to PRI members in Advisory Council: BDC Chairpersons
8/21/2020 12:48:47 AM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 20: Chairpersons of Block Development Committees (BDC) of J&K demanded representation in the forthcoming Advisory Council, claiming that there has been no representation of PRI members in the J&K Government for the last 70 years.
In a statement issued here today, the BDC Chairpersons of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory said that a year after the abrogation of Article 370, political buzz is back in Jammu and Kashmir. There are speculations around the establishment of an Advisory Council which will assist the Lieutenant-General of the Union Territory.
“The appointment of Sinha as Lieutenant Governor is being read as a signal that the Centre is keen to revive political activity and pave the way for the beginning of a new political chapter following the formation of the UT. The former state has been without a government since the collapse of the PDP-BJP coalition in June 2018,” they said.
“We are very happy to become part of history by taking part in the first-ever BDC polls in Jammu and Kashmir. It is a step toward a new dawn of grassroots-level democracy in the state,” they said, adding that it will empower the Panchayat Raj system in Jammu and Kashmir. He batted strongly for nomination of Shafiq Mir in the upcoming Advisory Council.
The elected BDC Chairpersons demanded that the government should give due representation to the elected PRI members by nominating Shafiq Mir, who is also the Chairman of All J&K Panchayat Conference, into the forthcoming Advisory Council of Lt Governor. They said that Shafiq Mir has played a role in establishing the Panchayati Raj Institution in the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State. They said that the government should atleast appoint one member of the Advisory Council from the elected BDC Chairpersons and in this regard Shafiq Mir is the only accomplished person who would play an efficient role in delivering the mission of energizing Panchayats and equitable development.
The signatories to the statement included BDC Chairpersons Arun Sharma (Sunderbani); Mohd Hanif (Bhalessa, Doda), Rozy Zafar (Thanamandi, Rajouri); Nazir Hussain (Nangali Sahib) Poonch.
