IUST under scanner for online appointment of Registrar

Srinagar, Aug 23: The Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora in south Kashmir has come under scanner for appointment of Registrar in alleged violation of the Union Government guidelines with the aspirants smelling a rat in the selection.
Sources said a month ago, the IUST had invited applications for appointment of Registrar in the midst of pandemic.
Sources said initially the IUST had notified that interviews would be held at the varsity campus. But subsequently the there was a U-turn as the interviews were held online as two of those on panel were conducting interview online.
But the decision to hold online interviews for job has come in violation of the guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Officials said in the wake of pandemic the MHRD came up with formal notice that online interviews should not be held.
Moreover, for a place like Jammu and Kashmir where the internet connectivity is already confined to 2G, the aspirants had objected to the move.
The IUST however went ahead with the plan and the interviews were held on August 10 online.
Many of the job aspirants said they were unable to get video of the selection panel due to poor connectivity and at times they were made to talk on phone.
While the aspirants decided seek intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the IUST officials selected their alleged favorite within three days.
“What was the hurry in making selection when the interviews were not held properly,” said the dropped candidates.
Sources said the Raj Bhawan has already got inputs about the alleged favoritism in the holding of interviews in violation of the laid down norms.
The IUST, officials, however refuted the allegations of favoritism and corruption adding that the selection was done in the most transparent manner.
“The appointment was made on the recommendations of the selection committee and subsequent approval of the honorable VC by utilizing his special powers as vested in the IUST Act,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile the aspirants have appealed the Lieutenant Governor to personally look into the matter.
