Cong expresses shock over loss of lives, property due to heavy rains

JAMMU, Aug 26: Congress has expressed shock and grave concern over the loss of lives and property in several areas of Jammu region due to heavy rains and flash flood and urged upon the administration to immediately engage its men and machinery in rescue, relief and rehabilitation mission.
In a statement JKPCC has expressed shock over the loss of lives and property in several parts of Jammu due to heavy rains and flood devastation, rendering several people shelterless besides loss of life stock and other public property including connectivity at several places and asked the LG administration to issue directions to the concerned authorities to assess the loss and provide relief and rehabilitation to the affected people in different areas of Jammu. They said that the entire belt from Jeevan Nagar, Gangyal, Bhour Camp and Chatta and several other areas were flooded and houses and shop were damaged.
The main bridge at Dhara near Mahant Bachiter Singh Collage totally washed away and another bridge at Bhour Camp got extensively damaged.
Congress leaders alleged that failure of authorities to carry out de-silting and protection work apart from illegal encroachment in several places caused extensive damage to public and private property.
They urged the LG administration to immediately restore connectivity and direct the distract and tehsil administrations to constitute teams to assess the loss to public and private property and take up the urgent repairs and restoration work besides providing relief to affected people.
The party conveyed deep sympathies to those who have lossed their dear ones besides damage to life and property.
Earlier, a team of senior leaders of JKPCC led by Raman Bhalla (Former Minister & Vice President PCC), Ravinder Sharma (Chief Spokesperson) Yogesh Sawhney (former Minister and DCC President Jammu, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma (Former Minister & DCC President Kathua) visited Bhour Camp, Chatha, Jeevan Nagar and several other areas of Jammu and met the affected people, who complained that the precautionary measures such as de-silting of deep lanes/nalas have not been taken by the government before the start of rainy season which has caused huge damage of houses and shops and loss of life and property.
