8/27/2020 12:57:23 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 26: A day after a youth, booked under POCSO and was out on bail, jumped from river Tawi bridge, Jammu Police on Wednesday ordered probe into the matter.
A Police spokesman here said that an incident relating to and video with the heading “Frustrated Youth jumped over Tawi River and ended his life,” has come to notice.
“We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident,” said the spokesman adding that a high level enquiry into the matter to ascertain the facts and circumstances of the case headed by SP City North P D Nitya, has been ordered.
“The responsible person (s) will be strictly dealt under law,” he added and said that a case under section 309 IPC has already been registered at Police Station Nowabad and investigation started.
A 24-year-old boy who was on interim bail in POCSO (Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences) Act case on Tuesday jumped from river Tawi bridge and committed suicide alleging harassment by police, a charge vehemently denied by police.
His lawyer, Y M Khan said that the youth identified as Akshay Kumar, who was on interim bail since March 13, his bail was rejected and the court ordered his arrest after rejecting an application seeking extension of his bail period and termed it culprit in POCSO case.
He said that the deceased before jumping from the bridge, shot his video and circulated to his friends and also to the lawyer. “If police would have taken him to the hospital for the test, he would have been alive and not taken an extreme step as he was already in distress,” the lawyer said.
In the video prior to suicide, Akshay alleged that. “When the case against me was filed, the IO demanded money to save me, but I refused to pay him as I had not committed any crime, and I was put in jail only on the basis of baseless allegations,” the deceased had alleged.
“It is not a suicide but a murder of an innocent youth,” the deceased is heard saying in the video.
However, a senior police officer told Early Times that the allegations of Police harassment and implicating him in the case are not true.
“Janipur Police registered case against Akshay Kumar, under POCSO Act on the basis of Court order, when the court orders registration of case under mentioned sections, how can a police officer manipulate it? Further investigation into the case has begun”, he added.
